Burrata & Tomato Flatbread

August 16, 2026 Richard Freyermuth

Burrata & Tomato Flatbread

Burrata & Tomato Flatbread

This recipe uses:

Richard's Famous Black Garlic Salt

Creamy burrata, juicy tomatoes, and fresh basil come together on a crispy flatbread for an elegant meal that's surprisingly simple to make. Richard's Famous Black Garlic Salt is sprinkled on just before serving, adding a rich, mellow garlic flavor with subtle notes of sweetness and umami that make every bite unforgettable.

Makes: 2–4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 store-bought flatbread or naan

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 8 oz. burrata cheese

  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced or chopped

  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves

  • 1 teaspoon Richard's Famous Black Garlic Salt (or to taste)

  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling (purchased or see recipe below)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.

  2. Place the flatbread on a baking sheet and brush lightly with the olive oil.

  3. Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly over the flatbread.

  4. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges are crisp and lightly browned.

  5. Remove from the oven and gently tear the burrata into pieces over the hot flatbread.

  6. Add the fresh tomatoes and basil leaves.

  7. Finish generously with Richard's Famous Black Garlic Salt, allowing it to remain on the surface as a finishing seasoning.

  8. Drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze and, if desired, add a few grinds of black pepper.

  9. Slice and serve immediately.

Fred's Tip

Black Garlic Salt shines as a finishing seasoning. Sprinkle it on just before serving so its rich, mellow garlic flavor and subtle sweetness stay vibrant. It's the final touch that transforms this simple flatbread into something truly special.

Homemade Balsamic Glaze

A rich, glossy balsamic glaze is one of the easiest ways to add restaurant-quality flavor to countless dishes. With just two ingredients and about 15 minutes, you'll have a sweet-tangy drizzle that's perfect for vegetables, meats, flatbreads, salads, and more. It pairs especially well with recipes featuring Richard's Famous Original Garlic Salt.

Makes: About ½ cup
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 12–15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup good-quality balsamic vinegar

  • 2 Tbsp. honey (optional, for a slightly sweeter glaze)

Directions

  1. Pour the balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan.

  2. Stir in the honey, if using.

  3. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has reduced by about half. Be careful not to burn it.

  5. The glaze should lightly coat the back of a spoon. Remember that it will thicken further as it cools.

  6. Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely before transferring to a jar or squeeze bottle.

Fred's Flavor Tip

Drizzle homemade balsamic glaze over:

  • Burrata & Tomato Flatbread

  • Caprese salad

  • Roasted Brussels sprouts

  • Grilled asparagus

  • Fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream

  • Grilled chicken or steak

  • Roasted vegetables finished with Richard's Famous Original Garlic Salt

A little goes a long way!

Storage

Store in an airtight jar or squeeze bottle in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. If it becomes too thick, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes or warm it briefly before using.
