Make it with:
Richard’s Famous Grampa’s Favorite Apple Pie Spice

Serve this warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

For the apple filling:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Gala,  or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced

  • 1-2 T. fresh lemon juice (optional)

For the crisp topping:

  • 1 cup unbleached flour

  • 1 cup sugar (or ¾ sugar plus ¼ cup brown sugar)

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Richard’s Famous Grampa’s Favorite Apple Pie Spice

  • 1 stick butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Spray an 8 -inch baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. Prepare the apples and place in baking dish. Mix in lemon juice if desired.

  3. Make the topping: Combine the topping ingredients in a food processor and process until crumbly.

  4. Assemble: Spoon the topping evenly over the apples.

  5. Bake: Place in preheated oven and bake about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your oven temperature…or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
(You can place a cookie sheet on the rack below the crisp in case it bubbles over, if desired).

  6. Serve: Let it cool slightly. Serve warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Approx. 6 servings.
